
Tom Slaughter
Class of: 2016
Tom Slaughter has been involved in the pageantry activity for 43 years as a performer, designer, instructor, and judge. Tom has been a part of the FFCC Board of Officers since 2001, filling the roles of Director of Finance, Director of Human Resources, and Chief Judge. He has been a judge for Winter Guard International for the past 19 years, and also judges for Drum Corps International, and various marching band circuits around the country.
In his past, Tom performed as a member of the Suncoast Sound Drum and Bugle Corps, and then went on to design and administrate the visual program at Largo High School in Largo, Florida for 17 years, winning 2 State of Florida Class Championships (1998 and 2000). Tom spent 3 seasons (2009, 2010, 2011) as the Visual Caption Head and Staff Coordinator for the Teal Sound Drum and Bugle Corps out of Jacksonville, Florida and then was a member of the visual staff for the Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps during 2012. Currently Tom volunteers his time as a Designer and Consultant for the marching bands and winter guards at Sunlake High School in Land O’ Lakes, FL and J.W. Mitchell High School in Trinity, FL. Sunlake High School was the 2019 Scholastic A Silver Medalist and the 2022 Scholastic Open Bronze Medalist at the WGI World Championships. J. W. Mitchell High School was a Scholastic A finalist (12 th place) at the 2022 WGI World Championships.
During the week, Tom teaches Algebra Honors and Geometry Honors at Woodrow Wilson Middle School in Tampa, Florida. His wife of 32 years, Rene’ (a former high school Guard Captain), is a Registered Nurse working in Clearwater, Florida. His oldest son, Brandon is the Director of Bands at Sunlake High School in Land O’ Lakes, FL. His youngest son, Ryan is a Social Studies educator in the San Francisco Bay Area. Tom currently resides in New Port Richey, FL which is a suburb of Tampa.
